ALL ABOUT MAGICK

"The Magus is …characterized by two things, the power to be still and wait, and the power to stand absolutely alone.  Until we know how to be still, mentally as well as physically, we cannot handle power."

Dion Fortune

The Ancients had a perception of the world that was akin to the pure vision of a child. They were in harmony with the natural world and the powers that created every part of it. To them, the idea of the imagination as separate from consciousness would not have existed.  Modern man has developed an inner conscious so as to preserve a world where archetypes may reign.  These are evoked in the form of symbols, whether they are of the Egyptian, Pagan or Kabbalistic tradition.  The Western Magical Tradition has evolved a system of training that enables the initiate to be familiar with certain forms. In this way they may be invoked at will.

The underlying premise of magical ritual is bringing about a change in consciousness. If a circumstance is represented in the mind, or acted out, it will come to pass in the ‘real’ world.  It must be made clear that ‘motive is all’. To be certain of purpose and unsullied in intention is essential to successfully perform any act of magick. So called ‘Black’ magic is an aberration because it relies solely on will and does not accept the underlying harmony of the universe.  All true magicians know that it is the Divine Purpose that ultimately determines the success or failure of any act of magick.

From the shaman imbued with the power of nature spirits, to the elaborate rituals of the Golden Dawn, the form of magick may have been refined but its nature remains the same.  As a musician plays a piece until his performance is fluent, so does the magus practise his own art.  He must possess dedication and courage.  Also he combines the nature of each of the four elements in his character.  Air - to will, Fire - to dare, Water - to be silent, and Earth - to know.  The magus always retains a sense of balance - between heaven and earth. ‘As above – so below’. He retains to an open mind.  All men are capable of acquiring this relationship with existence if they wish to. Few choose, or are chosen to do so.

The world is a mysterious and wonderful place.  My own study and practice of magick has caused me to marvel the more and realise the infinite potential of creation. I believe that the way to curtail the pernicious influence of materialism and self-destruction is through magick.  I write extensively on the subject and hold workshops, all to one end – the greater understanding of existence.  Delight, humour and fulfilment are all there waiting on the magical path.  Join me if you will!

I dreamt I was a butterfly. When I awoke, I was not sure whether I was a man who had dreamed I was a butterfly, or a butterfly now dreaming I was a man.[1]
